Current Research Spotlights

Hiba Mukhtar Dedmari, MA

Hiba's research examines the influence of religiosity on mental health, with a focus on its role in both the maintenance of anxiety disorders and its protective potential among South Asian-identifying adults. She is also interested in the evidence-based integration of religiosity and spirituality within global mental health practice.

Isabella Tomei Seabrooks, MA

Bella's research interests broadly pertain to how racial/ethnic identity shapes mental health within the realms of culture and community. Her dissertation aims to understand intergenerational trauma, resilience, and coping mechanisms in a Lebanese context. Clinically, she aspires to provide culturally sensitive and accessible treatment that adequately serves historically underserved populations.

Sofia Montinola, BA

Sofia is an incoming Clinical Psychology student at Miami University. She studied Psychology and Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University and more recently worked at the Dauten Center for Bipolar Treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital. Broadly, Sofia is interested in reducing barriers to mental healthcare in minoritized communities through the development of culturally-sensitive psychosocial interventions. She is also particularly interested in how cultural stigma towards psychological treatment impacts help-seeking behaviors in Filipino populations. In her free time, Sofia enjoys cooking, crochet, and putting up a lackluster performance in most video games she plays.

Undergraduate Student Research

Undergraduate students in our lab participate in ongoing research projects and pursue their own projects via 1) a departmental honors thesis or 2) Miami University awards such as the Dean’s Scholar Award, Doctoral-Undergraduate Opportunities Scholarship, and Undergraduate Summer Scholar Award. Students typically present their honors thesis at national conferences, and many of these honors theses are published in peer-reviewed journals.
